Description
Filipina is a common term used to refer to women in the Philippines or those who hail from Philippines. With globalization, Filipina physicists can also be seen in several places around the globe utilising their expertise in Physics to solve real-world problems. The aim of this presentation is to answer the questions: Where are the Filipina physicists and what do they do? Latest data show that for every 10 Filipino physicists, only two are women, with almost half of them based abroad. Given this scarce number of Filipina physicists in the country, it is important to establish a network that will strengthen collaboration amongst scientists in the academe, industry and administration within and outside Philippines. These collaborations will be an avenue for student exchange programs, scholarships and fellowships that can ultimately contribute in increasing the number of Filipina physicists. And by recognizing their contributions to science, it will inspire the next generation, especially women, to pursue physics.
